Meetings are a high-anxiety English application. Often one is interested in making a good first
impression or there are controversial matters that need to be discussed and clarified. Successful
communication is crucial.
Meetings are typically less controlled than presentations and preparation is less straight forward.
Nonetheless, there are definite steps that can be taken to ensure the best possible performance at key
meetings.
Questions to answer before the meeting begins:
- What vocabulary is necessary to handle the business of the meeting?
- What is my role at the meeting?
- What preparation is necessary to fulfill this role?
- What are my goals for the meeting?
- What are the goals of other participants?
- How can I create a positive orientation in the other participants in advance of the meeting?
